New School Policy At Canton Glen Oak High School Causes Outrage

An issue has arisen at Canton Glen Oak high school. The school passed a policy saying that hoodies and zip up sweatshirts would not be permitted at school anymore. The school stated that hoodies and sweatshirts violate the districts policy about wearing "no coats or jackets". Students were outraged at this, and even some parents were. The students believed that since temperatures were dropping and it's getting colder, they should be able to wear hoodies and sweatshirts during school. Luckily though, in the end, the policy was suspended and no students will be getting in trouble. Why would you even think about banning hoodies or sweatshirts. That is just stupid. It sounds like that the real reason for banning the clothing was not named either. I wonder what it really was.

In all technicality, a sweatshirt or hoodie could be classified as a coat or jacket, but this leads back to the point that not allowing students to wear coats or jackets is very unreasonable, especially considering that temperatures drop considerably this time of year. Without coats or jackets, many students could become ill due to the weather. Sometimes I wonder who makes some of these policies.

I thinks it was a bad decision to say students can't wear hoodies or sweatshirts because some students don't have coats or like me don't like wearing them to school.

Banning hoodies is like a violation of the students; first amendment rights. They have the right to wear want they want to and censoring their clothes is wrong. It also makes the students suffer in the dead of winter, and I know I would want to protest the ban and have the school board drop it.

I think that banning hoodies is a very stupid idea. Most high schoolers practically live in hoodies.I think this violates their rights as individuals.

this article makes me angry just reading it. If our school banned i would do just what the kids at this school did and fight until i got them to give in.

It's a nice post. If the school would say something like that to us, I couldn't believe that, it would seem like we had to wear uniforms or something stupid like that.

I believe that the article deffinately should have stated what the correct reason for banning students to wear hoodies. It is very true that the temperatures in schools drop during winter months, our school does. If the reason was because students were bringing weapons to school, then maybe they should punish those people, not everyone.
